Dr. Maria Theresa Basco is a board certified, licensed physician and healthcare entrepreneur with demonstrated clinical, research and public health skills. Maria serves as Director of Clinical Research & Safety at Fiore Healthcare Advisors.

Dr. Basco trained in General Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Morristown Medical Center and completed a research fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Yale University.  As a research fellow, Dr. Basco worked with innovators in surgery and interventional radiology studying medical device efficacy and novel approaches to managing chronic disease within a multidisciplinary setting.  From Yale, Dr. Basco entered private practice in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery where she developed an interest in disease prevention and public health after observing patterns of disease resulting from to preventable lifestyle factors.  Inspired to improve patient-related outcomes, Dr. Basco founded a practice in wellness and lifestyle medicine.

Dr. Basco pursued further education in a Preventive Medicine residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMass) where she lectured on a broad range of public health topics including opioid addiction, infectious diseases, disease screening and prevention, and weight management.  Simultaneously, she earned her MPH with honors from UMass School of Public Health, with a research and practicum concentration on opioid addiction. She worked with state health departments on opioid addiction prevention and policy. Upon completion of training, she joined the UMass Faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and is active at the Medical School as well as with the City of Worcester on several public health initiatives.

Dr. Basco serves as a clinical project physician and medical monitor at FHA. Maria is currently the project physician for an early stage program in the rare diseases area and is also involved in programs in more advanced stages of drug development and device approval.
